Let’s dive into how to write a paper fast.
I know how busy it is in high school or college and writing a paper might not be on the top of your list.
And the next thing you know, your teacher says to turn in a paper tomorrow.
Paper? What paper? If this is you, then this 7 step method to write a paper quickly will greatly help you.
Last minute paper assignment? A few hours left? Worth a big chunk of your grade?
Well, no worries, and let’s breeze through how you can write your paper quickly!
7 Step Method to Write a Paper Quickly
1. Dissect the Prompt
Read the prompt and make sure that you understand what it is asking.
Is this an argumentative essay, a reflection, or analytical paper?
What does the instructions ask of you to do?
Are you comparing, coming up with your own ideas, or agreeing/disagreeing with a point?
Once you have an idea of:
- what the prompt is asking
- the type of paper you are writing
- what materials you need to support your paper
- the stance you have
- what you need (evidence or support)
then you are ready for the next step!
2. Create an Outline
This can be a simple 5 minutes where you just “plan” your paper.
Draw some circles and label them hook, intro, body, supporting detail, and conclusion.
Determine what topic/point that you want to make and focus your paper on that perspective.
3. Brainstorm Ideas
Then, think of all the possible backup points.
List all the ideas that you can think of that supports your paper.
You can just jot down ideas or include some detail on what to elaborate on.
4. Dump Everything Out
This part is my favorite part because you get to release all the ideas in your head onto the paper.
Write whatever comes to mind from the brainstorm session you had.
It’s OK to be repetitive because sometimes you might think of new ideas as you revisit the same idea.
5. Organize
And here is when you cut out any redundancy and clear up any repetitive sentences.
Combine your repetitive thoughts into the same section and try to condense it.
Also, brush up on your essay and move things around to where you see fit.

6. Edit, Revise
Finally, you’re at this part!
Edit your essay to check for any errors and revise anything that doesn’t make sense.
You might want to do a couple edit and revisions depending on how much time you have.
If you have an hour, just edit and revise once before submitting.
However, if you have a day, edit and revise at least three times to get your best work.
7. Submit
Lastly, submit your paper!
This is a super important step that you actually press submit and the paper goes through.
The last thing you want is to spend all your time on a paper to have it not go through the system.
If you are turning it in in person, then make sure that you have your NAME on it and stapled or paper clipped.
